Rome I

Arriving in Rome on Friday morning was a bit stressful at first. Rome is a big, loud, smelly city. We got our bearings and Jen practiced her Italian.

We wandered around the various Piazzas, rode the subway, ate really good pizza, and drank plenty of wine. We discovered the joys of "after-dinner drinks", more drinks that you have after you're finished drinking wine. A few blocks up from our Hotel on Via Collina, we stopped at a restaurant for a few drinks right before they closed. A keyboard player performed Italian lounge songs, and Jen sang along to "Guantanamera" with the restaurant staff and the rest of the patrons.

The Vatican Museum was closed and wouldn't reopen until the end of the week, so we decided to head north and return to the Vatican for the last leg of our trip.

Caribinieris (National Security Force) When we told them we wanted to take their picture, we originally thought that they were asking us for money.

Arguably the best meal during the trip: pasta arribiata ("angry pasta") in Trastevere ("Across the Tiber").
